Today, we’re going to discuss who’s better…Clopay, Amarr, or Pella garage doors. But before we get ahead of ourselves, we have to address Amarr Garage Doors & Pella Garage Doors. They are the same manufacturer! In fact, Pella is Amarr garage doors re-branded for Lowes. With that misconception out of the way, let find the truth of quality in Clopay vs Amarr garage doors.
Clopay Garage Doors
Clopay, like every manufacturer, builds both cheap doors and nice doors. But where they shine is that their nice garage doors are much better than most manufacturers. Two of my favorite doors are the Clopay Canyon Ridge and Clopay Avante glass garage door. If you love high end garage doors, Clopay Garage Doors has the biggest selection. They also make front entry doors that, in some cases, can match their garage doors. Clopay is a massive company and their parent company is publicly traded. But despite their size, our experience with Clopay has been excellent. They have some of the best customer service and we buy a lot of Clopay doors. We’re a direct dealer with them.
Clopay offers a unique twist to the standard stamped carriage garage door. The Gallery Collection is their version of a stamped carriage garage door, but they offer a top section with larger glass sections than their competitors. This is a big seller in the Atlanta area. We love the Clopay Gallery Garage Door for many reasons including the fact it’s one of the best looking carriage stamp doors on the market.
Lastly, Clopay takes things to the next level with their wide variety of colors. The ultragrain colors give you the option to pick a wood grain color that will best match your homes colors. So, when it comes to Clopay Garage Doors, you can be sure you’re getting the durability and design variability you want to get a great new garage door.
Amarr Garage Doors
Amarr Garage Doors is another big company that manufacturers garage doors. They don’t have the wide range of doors that Clopay has, but they have the exceptional Amarr Classica Collection. With this collection, Amarr found a way to get the high end look of a custom wood door and stamp it into steel on 28” and 32” sections. This provides a high end look with 3 sections on a 7’ tall door. The bigger sections give the door an even better look. It also makes the windows much larger.
When it comes to the rest of the line, Amarr builds a good base garage door. Amarr tried a “pinch” resistant hinge that failed, and they’ve since moved away from that. Because we don’t sell a lot of builder grade doors, we won’t spend a lot of time there.
The Amarr Horizon is also a neat product. It’s a full view glass garage door with no center vertical stile. This means you get wide glass panels that stretch from one end of the door to the other, creating a unique modern design.
The Verdict on Clopay vs Amarr
Amarr and Clopay come to the table with the same business model. They manufacture and distribute their own product. They are also the two biggest manufacturers in the garage door market in terms of volume. You’ll see them in the box stores like Home Depot and Lowes.
However, with all things evaluated, we give the win to Clopay. Clopay is more innovative, provides better customer service, better quality higher end garage doors, and they support their dealers better. Overall, Amarr has two unique garage doors that are amazing, but it’s not enough to beat out Clopay in our opinion.
