How Much Does a New Garage Door Cost?

Garage doors range from simple builder-grade replacements to fully custom designs. The right choice depends on door size, construction, insulation level, and style preferences. Every door we install includes professional setup, new hardware, and balance testing. Many homeowners in Georgia choose insulated steel styles for durability in changing temperatures.

Typical Starting Points

  • Single door: Around $1,500 and up
  • Double door: Around $2,000 and up

These prices cover standard steel models with basic hardware and trim. Custom finishes, heavier materials, or specialty track systems will adjust the final cost. This applies to most installations across Georgia, whether in older homes or newer subdivisions.

How Much Does a New Garage Door Cost for Insulated Steel Doors?

Steel doors come in several construction types. The build determines how rigid, quiet, and energy-efficient the door will be. Do not add aftermarket insulation to a non-insulated door. Extra weight changes spring balance and shortens spring life. In Georgia’s warmer months, insulated doors also help reduce heat transfer into attached garages.

  • Pan (non-insulated): A single sheet of steel. Light, flexible, and the most affordable option for detached garages.
  • Pan with vinyl back: Adds a thin layer of insulation to cut down vibration and noise.
  • Steel-back with polystyrene insulation: Double steel layers with a rigid foam core. Quieter and sturdier, ideal for attached garages.
  • Steel-back with polyurethane insulation: The highest strength and efficiency. Dense foam bonds to both steel layers for maximum rigidity and thermal performance.

How Much Does a New Garage Door Cost With Custom Options?

Upgrades let you tailor appearance and performance to your home:

  • Windows and decorative hardware for natural light and curb appeal.
  • Custom colors and finishes that match siding or trim.
  • Additional insulation to improve comfort in garages with living space above.
  • Full-view aluminum and glass or custom wood designs for a modern or traditional statement.

High-end doors in these categories can range from $10,000 to $20,000 dollars installed, depending on size and materials. These specialty doors are popular in certain Georgia neighborhoods looking for higher-end curb appeal.

Why Garage Door Insulation Matters Near You

If your garage connects to living space or you use it as a workshop, insulated doors make a noticeable difference. They help regulate indoor temperature, reduce outside noise, and extend the life of opener components by minimizing vibration. Non-insulated doors flex more in heat and cold, which can lead to faster wear at joints and hinges — something Georgia homeowners often notice during seasonal temperature shifts.

Energy Efficiency and Performance

Insulated steel doors help regulate garage temperature, which stabilizes nearby rooms and reduces energy loss in attached homes. They also minimize vibration, reducing wear on openers and hardware. Over time, that small upgrade saves on both energy costs and maintenance. This is especially helpful in Georgia, where garages can heat up quickly during summer.

Clearance and Track Modifications

Every home has different ceiling heights and storage needs. Track systems can be configured for high lift, vertical lift, or larger radius curves to clear tall vehicles or accommodate car lifts. With newer trucks and SUVs running taller than older models, 8-foot-high and wider doors are becoming the norm around Atlanta and many Georgia suburbs. Sharing your ceiling height and vehicle type helps ensure the right setup from the start.

The Takeaway

A basic steel door provides reliable performance and value, while insulated or custom models add comfort and design impact. Whether you’re keeping it simple or upgrading for long-term curb appeal, choosing the right construction and track system ensures smooth operation for years to come.

The entire company was fantastic- from Bree calling me back on Memorial day to Joe arriving Tuesday morning to address my issue. The entire door system was reviewed nd evaluated thoroughly.
Joe patiently explained what I had, needed to be done and what my options in general were for repair. Once the estimate was ready, Joe again patiently explained the repair options and discussed in detail any specific line items I either didn't understand or was looking for clarification on.
The estimates were fair and reasonable for the work involved and once I made my choice the work was begun and finished well within the time frame Don gave me for the repair. I am extremely pleased with everything- top to bottom and will continue to highly recommend Aaron Overhead Doors to anyone looking for garage door repairs/ replacement.

I highly recommend Aaron Overhead Doors for any garage door needs. Joe Simon is professional, knowledgeable, and truly values his customers. Ally, who manages the service calls, is also extremely friendly and helpful.

When my garage door motor stopped working after just two years, Joe and the team took care of everything from start to finish with LiftMaster. They were completely honest, immediately let me know the unit was still under warranty, and kept me informed every step of the way while arranging the replacement. The entire process was seamless and stress-free thanks to their expertise and integrity.
